Folk music of Gwent

A talk with a difference combining musical folk history and live performance in the company of folk fiddle player, Katie Batchelor.

Join Katie for a performance of the traditional song and dance music of Gwent, with a talk on the history and stories behind the music.

Some of these tunes travelled around Wales and across borders by land and by sea, being adapted and recorded as they went. Katie will focus on mapping the progress of two in particular which are still being played today as part of active traditions.

Katie is a folk fiddle player who has lived in Cardiff for five years since completing a Bachelor of Music degree at Cardiff University. She is an active member of several different South Wales based traditional music sessions and dance groups.
