Stories from the Levels

The LLS-3 Stories from the Levels project will work with communities of Rumney, St Mellons, Wentlooge, Newport, Caldicot and Monmouthshire to collect, document and interpret oral histories from those who have lived and worked in the Gwent Levels.

Through oral history recordings and the production of a touring exhibition consisting of people’s stories, archive material, photographs, film and art, the project will engage local people in finding out about people’s lived experience of the Levels and what this reveals about their shared heritage. The project aims to inspire and engage people from all backgrounds, enabling them to recognise, value, record and share their heritage. There is a risk that these stories will disappear from living memory if these stories are not recorded so this project will make a real difference to ensuring that the multiple voices from those who live and work on the levels, past and present are heard and preserved for future generations.
